About

Conscious dance is a creative, free-form movement practice that increases awareness.  It is a safe space where we can explore ourselves: bodies, emotions, minds, and hearts.  Just as in life, on the dance floor there are no rules: no movements to memorize, no right way to move, and no wrong way to express.  Dance is an ancient practice that we approach with reverence because it brings us into intimate contact with what is most sacred: our own self.

Our dance is an individual and collective experience.  How much you choose to interact with other dancers is up to you.  We ask only that you come with a heartful respect for yourself and every other person on the floor.  The conscious dance teacher is here to help take you deeper into the dance experience, when you’re ready.

If you’re considering coming for the first time, we recommend you wear comfortable clothes and arrive a few minutes early so you have time to sign-in, pay, and stretch or warm up your body before the dance begins.  Most of us dance barefoot, though non-marking shoes are allowed.

We dance for pleasure
We dance to express
We dance to release the past
We dance for the love of our bodies
We dance for health
We dance to honor where we’ve been and make space for where we’re going
We dance because we love life

Teacher

Ann KiteAnn Kite

Ann fell into free form dance at a 5Rhythms workshop in Asheville, North Carolina in November, 2008.  She awoke to the dance in her body and a yearning for movement expression.  Ann started dancing alone in her home and found her own body wanting dance community.  In August 2009 she started Conscious Dance C’ville, meeting once per weekSince then she’s added 3 other classes.  Ann has been accepted into the 5Rhythms Teacher Training program, and is currently training to become certified in SoulMotion.  She is passionate about life, about love of self and other, and about honoring the gifts that come through each one of us.  She works to welcome these gifts to flow through freely ~ the dance floor being a place of refuge, transformation, and release.

Ann is also a producer of 5Rhythms workshops happening in and around Charlottesville throughout the year.  You can contact Ann using the Contact form.
